DUMPLING FAQ

What are dumplings?

Dumplings are a beloved staple in Chinese cuisine, made with a thin dough wrapper filled with savoury ingredients like pork, vegetables, seafood, or chicken. They come in many regional varieties and can be boiled, steamed, or pan-fried—each method offering a unique texture and flavour.

How do I eat dumplings?

Dumplings are incredibly versatile! Enjoy them as a snack, side dish, or main meal. They can be served with dipping sauce, added to soup, or paired with noodles or rice. Whether boiled, steamed, or crispy from the pan, they’re delicious however you serve them.

Do I need dipping sauce?

Not necessarily! Dumplings are seasoned inside with aromatic ingredients like soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, and shallots. But a dipping sauce—like soy sauce, black vinegar, or chilli oil—can enhance the experience and add a personal twist to every bite.

Are dumplings the same as wontons or bao?

They’re similar, but not the same. Dumplings usually have a thicker dough and more filling than wontons, and are shaped differently. Wontons are often served in soup and have a delicate, silky wrapper. Bao are fluffy steamed buns with a bread-like texture, often filled with meat or sweet paste.

How do I cook dumplings?

Dumplings are quick and easy to prepare straight from the freezer:
Boil: Cook in boiling water for 8–10 minutes until they float and are cooked through.
Steam: Steam for 12–15 minutes until hot and tender.
Pan-fry: Crisp the bottoms in oil, then add a splash of water and cover to steam until golden and juicy.

Ready in minutes and packed with flavour, dumplings make any meal feel special.
